What is Hyper-Hive in oneBackup V2.0?
With the release of oneBackup V2.0, we are introducing a new technology code named the “Hyper-Hive”. This is a new technology and is one of the core components of NIRIX’s cloud platform. It will allow our developers to develop and implement new features and functions across all of NIRIX’s business cloud services starting with oneBackup V2.0 and other cloud services in the near future.
oneBackup V2.0 is the first NIRIX cloud service that will take advantage of the Hyper-Hive technology. With Hyper-Hive technology, we were able to develop and implement some very interesting and helpful features and functions into oneBackup V2.0 that was not possible with the previous releases.
The two most visible new features leveraging Hyper-Hive technology we are introducing with oneBackup V2.0 are remote restore and remote configuration.
Restore Data to any Remote and Registered Desktops
With this new feature, you are able to restore any files or folders back to any registered PC without the need to be “at the PC” and without the need to perform the restore from a desktop client. All restoration can now be performed from any devices using a standard web browser from any location to any registered desktop on your list.
Here would be a perfect example. You currently perform back ups of multiple servers across multiple locations. You are on a business trip and a request came in requiring you to restore some files. The files were originally backed up from the servers in City A but need to be restored to a server in City B. Traditionally, satisfying this request would require you to perform multiple steps.
Leveraging Hyper-Hive technology and a standard web browser, you can restore any backed up files from any server to a server in City B all within a standard browser from any location during your business trip.
Remotely Configure any Backup Jobs
Hyper-Hive technology also allows you to configure and change backup settings and sources remotely with a standard browser. More specifically, one of the new feature with oneBackup V2.0 is the ability to edit the backup source of an existing backup job.
An example of this would be similar to the above scenario. One of the most common day to day tasks is changing what files and folders to backup. To make these changes, this often requires the user to be on the computer or remote in to access the backup desktop client to make these changes. Not only is this very inconvenient but also a big security risk as it requires you to open up your PC to the Internet.
oneBackup V2.0 with Hyper-Hive technology gives you the ability to make changes, such as what files and folders you want to backup, on any registered PC all through a standard web browser. This is substantially more secured because you do not have to reduce your PC security settings and expose your PC to the Internet where it can be hacked. All changes are done through a web browser so you do not require to be “at your PC” to make backup job settings.
